Today I’ve got another Style Crush interview with an amazing blogger for you. Sometimes I stumble upon blogs where every look blows me away – and Isabell’s blog Dressing Outside The Box definitely falls into this category. I discovered it not that long ago and I’m extremely excited about it, because Isabell shows outfits that are just great, fashion-conscious and don’t hold back. But let’s hear her talk about her style herself…

stylecrush_dressingoutsidethebox

Hello my lovelies,
my name is Isabell, I am a fashion designer, fashion victim and the author of the plus size fashion blog Dressing Outside The Box. As an employed fashion designer I am engaged with fashion every day and I also have been fascinated by it almost my whole life. Because of my body and size I have been disregarding my personal needs for fashion and have only concentrated in creating wonderful clothing for others. Just until I have come across plus size fashion blogs about a year ago. Beautiful women far beyond the so called size zero, like the adorable Katha, Gabi from Gabifresh, Stephanie from Le Blog de Big Beauty, Ela from Conquore – The Fatshion Café and so on, have become my biggest idols.

By time I realized that even as a big woman I still can be beautiful, desirable and fashionable.
I’ve learned that it has not been my body that has been holding me back but the by society and media created and in my mind manifested image of how a beautiful, fashionable and successful woman is supposed to look and as the result of that my inability to recognize my own beauty. By learning that, I have discovered my passion for planning and styling outfits and soon I knew that I would make blogging to my second purpose in life besides designing. It is my goal to share inspiration with like-minded women and I am not talking of only other big women but with women which share the same interest in fashion. I would also love to share my experiences of learning to love oneself to insecure women and hopefully motivate and inspire them in gaining more confidence and respect for themselves and their bodies.
At my blog I am showing you outfits styled and worn by me which are beyond every fashion rule ever made for big women. I am not intending to cover up or to flatter my body but to show fashionable highlights and trends without letting myself being discouraged by my size. I am trying to prove that it is absolutely not necessary for a big woman to back off from fashionable clothes and that you will still look beautiful in crop tops, tight pencil skirts or eye-catching statement dresses. To sum it up my blog is standing for thinking outside the box when it comes to plus size fashion.

Wie würdest du deinen persönlichen Stil beschreiben?
How would you describe your personal style?

It is pretty hard for me trying to describe my own style because I feel that it cannot be classified. My interests are really widespread and I can identify with so many different kind of styles. One day I am dressed rather casual the other day with a bit more of a rock attitude. The one day I am wearing very clean and sophisticated clothes and on the other day very girly and playful clothes. Nevertheless I think whatever I am wearing it always contains a certain kind of effortless and casual look. I also really like to play and mix contrary qualities (for example leather with lace, chunky knit with silk, sleek materials with fluffy materials and so on) and also contrary silhouettes. I am really into combining masculine cuts with feminine details or combining very clean clothing with playful and opulent statement jewelry. By now there are already some really good plus size labels. Labels such as Carmakoma, Zizzi and Junarose, which I have stumbled across lately. Though 80% of my wardrobe is containing clothes by Asos, Dorothy Perkins and Simply Be. For all of the lucky ones of you who are living in the united states I can highly recommend the label Eloquii. It is really a very beautiful and high fashioned plus size label. I am really hoping they will be shipping to Europe soon 😉

Isabell - Dressing outside the box

My biggest inspirational source is my job. There I always have to be up to date. I will have to know about all the latest trends and also about the trends of tomorrow. Therefore I am working a lot with fashion magazines, online articles and online shops and also with internal websites such as WGSN. If you are engaged in fashion so intensely you of course come across a lot of new impressions and ideas, not just for your work but also for yourself. On my way home from work, in the train, I really enjoy looking at all my favorite fashion blogs. Of course I am also receiving a lot of inspiration from other blogs. It is also very interesting to see how real women, like you and me, are interpreting and translating current trends. Even if you wouldn’t style this outfit for yourself, it however is leading to another idea which you can use for your own style.

5 Dinge, die Isabell gerade liebt:
5 of Isabell’s current favourites:

Stament Jewelry

Oh my, I really love statement jewelry. Whether it is a necklace or earrings, ear cuffs, or rings, I have really fallen for it. And yet I have never been keen on wearing any jewelry in the past. But as the era of the statement jewelry has approached, the accessory industry has made such a great development. Before, jewelry had just been the same old thing as ever. Everywhere you went you found the same lame and boring stuff. But now there are so many special and edgy and most important, affordable new jewelry. A statement piece can upgrade every simple outfit. Pair a denim trouser with a simple shirt or blouse, throw on a cool biker jacket and upgrade the whole thing with a beautiful statement necklace and you immediately look stylish and effortless… how easy is that?

Pastels

You just can’t miss pastels this year. Nearly all stores and all online shops are full of them. In addition pastels are available in all kind of new qualities. Pastel leather, for example, or scuba and chunky of fluffy knits in pastel colours. There is indeed a huge variety for pastels this year. So go on, don’t hold back. And if you are not into wearing a whole pastel piece you can always decide for beautiful pastel coloured jewelry or nail polish.

Makeup Kits

Like almost every woman I am fascinated by makeup. I really like to devote myself to all kinds of makeup and I also enjoy strolling along beauty shops searching for the approximately hundredth red lipstick or the best covering concealer. But I would never pass a makeup kit or pallet without buying it. I am not even sure what makes them so special to me. Is it the feeling receiving more (quantitatively seen) or is it just the fact that this kit combines different products into one? I guess it is a bit of both. Anyway a makeup kit always gives me a feeling of an excited little girl on Christmas, opening pretty gifts 😉

Nailart Sticker

For somebody who likes nail art, but is either incapable (like me), clumsy, or simply hasn’t got the time to do it, these nail art stickers are just perfect. There are so many beautiful stickers by now, so many pretty and special designs. You can easily find them at Kiko or Misslyn and even at Asos at the beauty section, which I can highly recommend if you’re looking for unique designs. I have really been skeptical at first if these stickers will look good and professional since there have already been lip stickers and they have been a total failure. Meanwhile I am convinced that nail stickers can look really nice, are really easy to apply and can last pretty long when you apply a top coat. I even like plain stickers with just one colour…believe me, everybody will ask you how you have managed to apply nail polish so accurate 😉

London

London ist mein All Time Favorite.

London is my all time favorite. I just love this city. I love its people and their mindset and yes, their beautiful british accent. I love their fashion, the art, the victorian architecture and their music. Never has a city inspired me more than London. Just one weekend there is enough to gain new ideas and new inspirations. Just have a look at the people in the streets or the perfectly featured shop windows. There is really no better inspirational input. Of course, you will have to like the british style, this should be required. But for someone who is really into the rock- chic style of the British, London will be their fashion heaven!

Stylecrush - Dressing outside the box - Favourite Look

At last I would like to share some of my thoughts with you. I really hope that everyone of you will experience the feeling of self acceptance. This world is full of prejudices and people who like to project their own discontent to others in order not having to feel poorly all by themselves.

But please don’t ever let anyone tell you you’re not beautiful or less worth than you really are.
There will always be people trying to bring you down and of course, this won’t change when you have learned to love yourself. But it will help you to connive. You will realize that it is them who are to pity. They don’t know the feeling of loving themselves and finding peace in self acceptance and they will never grant anybody else to feel this way. If you ever feel down and you feel you need to change then first question the true source of this feeling. Isn’t it that the longing for change is only nurtured by the wish of acceptance? But whose acceptance is more important than the one for yourself? The only thing that matters in life is what you think about yourself and if you are happy with the person you are. So please just wake up and recognize your own beauty. Wake up and realize that you had been perfect all along. Wake up and let your life begin.
